Is there any way to give access to a non-public Messenger WITHOUT having to friend them on Facebook (which is a requirement of adding them as a tester via Roles on the Developer page)?
It would be nice to have client and co-workers test bots without having them as friends on my personal Facebook account.
Not unless you have your app approved by Facebook here.

You don’t have to be friends with them to add them as testers on your developer account. You just need their Facebook ID or username to add them as testers.
