Personalised Gif Not Loading

(ality) #1

Hey There,

I’ve been trying to load a gif from the following location. It’s quite slow loading which i put down to the size of the image, however sometimes it won’t load the iamge at all. Does anything stand out to why this would be? I get the following error:

(#100) Failed to fetch the file from the url

However it works most times on the same link. They are personalised gifs. So at the following link:

http://kick-push.co.uk/createimg/computer.php?first=Test

So maybe it could be something to do with the host, it’s just weird that it works sometimes and not others.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Ality,

I created a simple flow - catchall trigger followed by a Bot > Send Image action using the URL you provided. The response times seemed to vary between about 3seconds and about 12seconds, but it did always load for me. The varying response times indicates a delay in response from the hosting site.

How often is the image not working for you on average would you say?

The error message is coming back from the facebook platform but unfortunately it is quite a generic error message so doesn’t really help us much. Is there anything else provided in the logs? It could be that facebook have a timeout set that if the image isn’t returned in a particular length of time then it returns with an error message

Yeah i feel like Facebook may have a timeout feature, that’s a good shout.

It’s weird though because when I load in the browser it always loads
instantly, so it seems weird that the response times are so varied.

Like if you put the link into a website it never takes so long to send. It
would fail maybe 1/5-10 times, but it would be quite a important image sent
so can’t really have it risk failing that amount.

Just following this up from earlier. Can you think of anything on FlowXO that would slow this down? Every time I load the gif address (on different browser’s & wifi) it always loads within a second and nothing like the 12second delay that happens with the chatbot. I do think the timeout is happening on facebook, but just trying to work out how I can stop it from getting to this point

It’s a difficult one to troubleshoot, really. Facebook is definitely the stand-out factor here that seems to be causing the occasional delay on the delivery of the gif. If you try using the web messenger bot, for example, there doesn’t seem to be any delay at all.

We’re always looking to improve the usability and performance of the Flow XO platform and have made a lot of improvements over the last few months but I’ll certainly run this by the development team to see if there’s anything extra that can be done.

In the meantime it may be worthwhile experimenting with other image hosting platforms to see if there’s any improvement in the delivery speed to Facebook Messenger.
