Persistent Menu > Flow > User Input

(Anish Duggal) #1

I have a flow triggered from a persistent menu in said flow at one point I am asking for user Email and Name.

How can I get text based user input when we are 1 or 2 levels deep in the menu.

With the current persistent menu setup unless you are on the top level where is has the option “Send Message” there seems to be no way to get text input.

Help and thank you.

Hi Anish,

Just to clarify, when you mention the persistent menu are we talking about the one found in the bot setup? For example:

“Send Message” sounds like the Bot > Send a Message action which would be used in a Flow. Am I right in assuming that you’re asking how you can ask your user to enter information?

If you use a Bot > Ask a Question action in your Flow you can capture the user’s answer.

Thanks,
Dan

@DanielBeckett

Hi Thanks for your reply. Yes I am talking about the persistent menu from the bot set up.

I understand using Bot>Ask A Question should allow the user to input some type of answer via Text or Choice.

When asking for a text based answer thru Bot>Ask a Question ie. please provide your email, it should give the user the ability to type in their email via the composer window. This does not happen the only way to get to the composer window is to have the user move back up the menu structure to the top level where they have the option to select ‘Send Message’ and then input the required information.

When you run a flow trigger from any 2nd or 3rd level menu item the menu stays at that level and doesn’t provide anyway to open the composer window.

In the below image everything just stops dead at the point I ask for and email. (I am using the ‘Ask A Question’ action.

Hi @sarahpalombo,

Thank you so much.

As another piece of information to possibly help with your discussion.

Within the official messenger dev group on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/messengerplatform/

The dev’s have taken a poll not so long ago about the possible idea for having a way to invoke the composer window as and when it would be required. So there is a discussion about this happening there as well.

Thanks

Hi Anish,

This looks like the way messenger handle the persistent menus (rather than the way we are handling these) (unfortunately!) - I’ve got to sympathise as on a mobile device this really isn’t so good (you’d have to click back until you see the send a message option)

It could mean until messenger handle these differentl, you fall back to not using sub menus at least so you can control this a bit better.

Hopefully Messenger revise or improve this in the near future they are rolling out constant changes so fingers crossed.

Thanks, that is what I expected. I’m keeping and eye on the dev group to see what happens.
