New Conversation Trigger

We’ve changed the New Conversation trigger to make it even simpler.

It will now trigger every time:

  • A user installs your bot
  • or, the user types “help” or “start”.

So it’s now tied very closely to the welcome text.

If you need to do something once per response path, you can set a flag using attributes.

"Hello" Reserved Keyword

We’re adding “hello” (and common variations such as “hi”) as reserved keywords that show the welcome text and start a conversation.

This means that if you have a flow set up to trigger on “hello”, you’ll need to change the trigger keyword before Monday 1st August.

From Monday, you can move your flow to the New Conversation trigger if you’d like it to trigger on the keywords “help”, “hello” or “start”.

Shortcut Buttons

From next week, we’ll be introducing a new feature. For new triggers, we’ll be offering to display a shortcut button rather than asking you to type in help text.

This means the user will see a set of buttons straight after the welcome text, so they can quickly click a button to choose an option.

It will be the default setup for new triggers, but the old help text will still be available as an option, and you’ll be able to edit your triggers to enable the new buttons.

We’ve now made the change to introduce “hello” (and similar words such as “hi”) as reserved keywords that will bring up the welcome text and trigger a new conversation.

If you have any flows that trigger on hello, please change them now.

So what happens in the second time users say Hi? do they need to go through the whole onboarding flow again every time?

You can filter on the message being start or /start which will only trigger when users click Get Started in Messenger or first connect to your bot in Telegram.
