Bot unable to send messages. Tips on troubleshooting?

(Justin) #1

Hi All, I’ve created a simple flow that listens for a phrase and sends a response in Slack. I checked all the credentials in Slack and they seem to be fine. I’ve also checked the Flow XO logs and they say that the flow was triggered and the response was sent, but I don’t see any messages posted by the bot. Any tips on how to troubleshoot? Thanks!

That’s strange. What happens if you say ‘hello’ to the bot, does it respond?

Nope, unfortunately it still doesn’t respond. But the logs say otherwise.

Update: I created another Slack team to test and it seems to work fine after install there. Not sure why it wouldn’t work in the previous team.

No idea why it wasn’t working on the other team :disappointed: Can you try deleting the bot entirely from the old team and removing the bot from Flow XO, and redoing the steps?

There are usually quite a few separate bits and pieces when first setting up these bots and it easy to miss one, as it worked on the second team I’m wondering if it was an error somewhere along. Although having said that, usually you can’t even connect the Slack bot if there’s a problem.

Thanks for your help, John. It started working miraculously this morning. Nothing was changed. Someone else just tested it and it started working. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I had the same behavior with my Facebook Messenger bot last week. The FlowXO logs showed that everything was allright and the bot completed succesfully, but no response in Messenger. Next morning everything was working again without any change from my end.

Maybe worth investigating?

Although the two issues sound related, I don’t think they actually are (in fact, Slack and Messenger work very differently under the hood). But we’re currently working on making the platform more stable - this is definitely an area that will improve enormously over the next few weeks.
