Automatic collection of user email & phone

(Bob) #1

Why is it that FlowXO does not automatically collect Messenger user’s email and phone, whereas other platforms do?

Obviously having that data available would make flows alot easier to create (and perform faster), but maybe I’m missing some overriding philosophical reason why this function doesn’t exist.

Can someone enlighten me?

Hi @boblelle

As we’re a multi-platform service you may find that sometimes the way we handle bot setups is a bit different to other services which only focus on a single messaging platform.

With the recent GDPR regulations that are being enforced in Europe we’ve tried to respect user privacy and only collect essential information to distinguish users from one-another. This means that you can be upfront with your users and ask for the information from them as needed.

This isn’t to say that we’re not open to suggestions. We certainly welcome any feedback and could certainly review this for consideration with future updates if it proves to be popular with the community.

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the reply @DanielBeckett,

While I appreciate the position on respecting user privacy, I tend to react with the statement: “Please don’t do me any favors.”

This means I would like to take responsibility of putting the mechanisms in place that satisfy the protection of privacy. Of course, if FlowXO could be considered the responsible party when such unsavory bot-creators violate the rules, then I can certainly understand that the automatic data collection functions would be off-limits.

I, for one, would like to see an option to automatically collect user email and phone numbers. This option could be very useful as a convenience to the user, but moreover, to help marketers create custom audiences.

Please consider adding this functionality to your platform (at least for Messenger bots).
